You can’t read PDF file if you have not installed PDF Reader software(Adobe Acrobat Reader, FoxitReader) in your PC.
But you have other option to read PDF file. You can see PDF file through Firefox. You just need to install gPDF addons. It will help to see PDF files by Google Docs Viewer .
From next time when you click PDF link you will see it by Google Docs Viewer
